There are many ways to carefully budget a road trip that works for your family. Several points to consider in advance include fuel, lodging, and food. Here are some ways to save on all three:

Fuel, at one of its highest prices in the country right now, should be considered the most expensive part of a lengthy road trip. Getting gas in smaller towns can usually save parents a few dollars. Also, fuel tends to be cheaper at truck stops rather than regular gas stations. Fueling up before you leave town, especially if heading into the big city, can save you a bundle. Also, websites for finding low-priced fuel are available to assist you before your trip.

Lodging can be an interesting part of the road trip. Especially with children in mind, finding a place to stay can be challenging. Hotel rooms can be expensive, especially when families are looking for the ones with amenities to occupy the kids’ time. Try camping for a few nights instead. Usually, the fees for camp grounds are less expensive than a hotel room, and the kids are bound to enjoy the outdoor experience. For this option, be sure to pack foods that can be cooked over the campfire, and pack plenty of extra clothing in case the night is chilly.

Finally, food is bound to be on the minds of the kids as well as the parents during a road trip. Keeping snacks handy in the car and preparing healthy lunches ahead of time can help the family avoid expensive restaurants. Cut down on costs by packing water and juice as well.

This may go against the preconceived notion of traveling light, but with children in the car, one cannot have enough items to occupy their minds. Travel-sized games, books, and music are some of the best extras to have on board. Packing to keep the peace is one of the smartest things a mom can do when taking her children on the road.

An easy way to leave prepared is by creating a “travel kit” for the little ones. The kids can have fun collecting their favorite books for their very own carry-on. Small stuffed animals, especially if the family is traveling at night, can be helpful. Also, puzzle books, writing pads, or a small color kit can be helpful if the children are a bit older. Keeping kids happy in the car is easier when they have their most cherished toys on board.

Convenience stores and regularly visited grocery stores provide a plethora of travel-sized games. All the family favorites can be found, and kids can enjoy magnetic checkers, chess, and board games as well. Ranging from classics to the most modern raves, mini games are available almost anywhere that their standard-sized counterparts are sold.

Image Provided by Google

In addition, many parents revel in the peacefulness that a portable DVD player can provide. Whether it is built in or one that utilizes the car’s energy and plugs in, these devices are becoming a must-have for parents. Let’s face it: most kids love movies. Packing a small bag of the most-loved shows can ensure the kids are occupied for hours. Especially handy for lengthy road trips, portable DVD players have excellent volume control for parents.

Holiday vacations can be stressful. Everyone can agree on that. However, with the right preparation, information, and of course, the right deals, traveling during the holidays can be a huge memory-maker for the entire family. Here are some ways to make it work for yours:

Plan In Advance

Not many families should attempt the last-minute road trip. Especially with little ones in mind, moms and dads should take a considerable amount of time plotting rest stops, restaurants that are kid-friendly, and places for the children to relax and expel energy on the way. Many parents do not consider that children have great difficulty sitting in the car for hours on end. A detour to the park or museum can help the trip go much more smoothly. Aside from pit stops, parents should consider the path of travel that can bring the least amount of holiday traffic, especially in the winter if outside play is not an option. After all, in that case, the quickest trip is probably the best.

Travel At Night

Now that sounds interesting. In fact, it might be the best option for your family. Especially around the holidays, skipping naps and regular, healthy meals can make for cranky toddlers (and parents)! If mom or dad can plan at least a few days in advance to double up on sleep, traveling at night can be one of the most peaceful ways to get the job done. Not only can the children sleep the entire way, but there will be less holiday traffic at this time as well. Hand Dad an extra cup of coffee, and he may be able to drive all night!

Many families are eliminating the family vacation from the budget this year. With so many bills that need to be paid and the price of everything on the rise, families are finding it hard to budget in an expensive family vacation this year. The good news is there are still tons of inexpensive family vacations out there that your family can enjoy.

If you are still wishing you could take your family on vacation this year, here’s a look at some of the many inexpensive family vacations that are just waiting for your family to enjoy.

Camping Trips

Image via Wikipedia

Camping vacations are relatively inexpensive. You don’t need to pay hotel fees, purchase souvenirs or buy food at expensive restaurants to go camping. Most camping sites have everything you need in one location. There are tons of outdoor activities to take advantage of, the cost for lodging is fairly cost-effective, and families are able to bring their own food so they don’t have to pay for restaurants.

Local Attractions

Families rarely take advantage of the local attractions right in their own backyard. Chances are there are some local attractions that are close to your home that your family hasn’t had the opportunity to visit. With a little planning and the ability to find fairly cheap hotels, you can take your family on a local vacation without having to break you family’s budget.

Just because the economy is rough does not mean that you and your family have to nix the family vacation from your budget. Instead, with a little planning and flexibility you will be able to enjoy a nice family vacation while staying within your budget.

Having a family can be expensive. You have to pay for food, clothing, shelter, school supplies and activities. All of these items can add up over time and be stressful. However, you can avoid the stress and frustration by creating a family budget that helps you establish where your money is going and figure out how to save for those rainy days.

Every family’s budget will be different which is why you need to create your own personal family budget. Here’s a look at how you can create a personal budget for your family.

Establish Spending Habits

You need to establish where you are spending money and where you can cut back. To do this you will need to keep track of your family’s spending habits for a period of time. Experts recommend that you write down everything you spend money on for three months which is how you can track your family’s spending.

Establish How Much is Coming In

You need to establish exactly how much money can be used to contribute to the family budget. Gather pay stubs and anything that will track what money is coming in, so you can assess just how much money you have to spend.

Once you have established spending habits and tracked how much your family is bringing in you can begins create a family budget. Take a look at where you are spending money and see if you can eliminate any excessive spending. You can also assess whether or not your family needs to find another source of income such as a second job or having the teens in the family get a part-time job.

It’s surprising how many families consider their furry friend a part of their family. If you are one of the many families who consider your cat or dog a family member then you know how hard it is to find pet friendly vacation spots. Many hotels and motels do not allow cats or dogs, which can make it difficult if you want to bring them along for the family fun.

Luckily, there are some ways you can make your family vacation easier and more pet friendly.

Travel by Car

Image by Getty Images via @daylife

Traveling by plane or train can be difficult if you have a cat or dog. If you wish to bring your furry friend along consider planning family vacations that you can get to by car. This allows you to save money by not having to board your furry friend on a plane or train, and you can spend some quality time bonding with your family. Your pet will also enjoy the car ride because there will be frequent opportunities to get the car and walk around so they won’t feel confined.

Pet Friendly Accommodations

Many hotels and motels are starting to incorporate pet friendly accommodations. It might take a little research but you can almost always find a lodging facility that welcomes cats and dogs. Some even have pet concierges to help attend to your pet while you enjoy some of the local attractions.

With a little research and planning there is no reason why you should have to leave your cat or dog at home or in a pet boarding facility for your next family vacation.

Going on holiday is great! We look forward to our vacations each year, but for mom the thought of packing for the whole family can be overwhelming. Where do you start?

First of all make a list of what you need! If you try and pack for three or four people without a list you are bound to forget a vital pair of shoes or the kid’s swimsuits! The key is to pack clothes which you can dress up or dress down, or mix and match. Neutral colors are always the best choice when it comes to holiday clothes and, unless you are going to some remote location, most resorts will have washing and laundry facilities should you need to wash an item or two.

You need comfort too. If you are going exploring everyone needs a great pair of sneakers or walking shoes and a lightweight, comfortable pair of cargo pants which are functional for the day time and look smart-casual in the evening with a linen shirt. These items are unisex and great for every member of the family. One good sweatshirt or hoody is a staple of the holiday wardrobe, especially if they are Rocawear clothes. You can wear them on cooler nights or if you’re waiting in an air conditioned airport. They also folds up to make a great pillow on the plane!

For the evening only take two or three evening outfits. Unless you have a special function to attend to, a holiday should be about relaxing!

Different Types of Loans

Loans are the most common type of financing potential business owners use. Depending upon the amount of money that is needed, length of time the owner needs the loan for, and what the money is being used for there, are a number of options available. Business owners have the option to take out small business loans, personal loans or even payday loans to help get the funds needed to start the business.

Government Grants

There might be government grants available to some small business owners. Grants allow business owners to receive the funding that is needed to get their business started. The biggest benefit of receiving a government grant is that most of them don’t need to be paid back if the money is used properly.

The investment of entrepreneurship isn’t cheap. However, using some of the resources available to potential business owners can help off-set the cost that is involved with starting a business.

Traveling is a wonderful experience that teaches you many things. It allows you to explore the different landscapes and go beyond the normal realms to enjoy beauty. Traveling can be hectic if unplanned. So it is always advisable to you plan your travel. Here are some off the road tips and tricks related to traveling alone. Do not trust the strangers at the first instance when you are a solo traveler. Avoid divulging too much info about yourself in too little time.

It is always better to take public transport when you are traveling alone as it ensures that you are not trapped. Avoid hitch hiking lifts in unknown places. As a solo traveler, you need to take care of your belongings. The thumb rule is to travel light. If you carry too much luggage you will have hard time trying to guard your belongings. Too much luggage will also attract thieves and swindlers. If you are a solo traveler then avoid wearing any jewelry while traveling, you don’t want to get involved in a street fight for some gold. Secondly carry your own first aid kit.

If you are someone who is on medications or you are undergoing any treatment than you should carry your doctor’s prescription and your medical file. It can be used in case of emergency. Store your doctor’s number in your phone. Always write down all your important numbers in a diary. It helps probably when your cell phone has conked off or when it is lost or stolen. Another important tip for solo women a traveler is never let anyone buy you a drink. If they insist then ask the drink to be made right in front of you.

Traveling solo is much different from traveling with friends or family. Traveling with friends is more relaxed and probably wild. When you travel with your family, you want to ensure that everyone is safe. One may need to travel with their family on several occasions like vacation; family functions or ceremonies etc. Here are few tips that may help while you are planning a family travel.

First and foremost take in everyone’s opinion and decide a place. If the place is pre-decided, then move on to the mode of transportation. While deciding the mode of transport, you must consider, the number of members traveling, their age groups (elderly members will not be able to travel long distances by road), the distance that needs to be covered and the budget for transportation. Private transport refers to rental cars or owned cars.

Once you have decided the mode of transport, start working on the places of importance and places that need to be visited for the trip. This will allow you to plan out your itinerary for the trip. Planning an itinerary is important as it avoids last minute planning. Arrange for accommodation and see to it that accommodation has all the facilities. Do not forget to check for the proximity of hospitals and other emergency services. Dig out as much as information you can about the places.

When you are planning your itinerary, ensure that there is something of every member’s interest, if there are kids, then add a place that kids might like, for people loving adventure and wildness, add a trip to a local conservatory. For elderly members you can add a place of historical or religious importance.

When thinking of the best snow in the world, many often consider Colorado, Utah, and other locations within the United States. However, a trip to Europe can also include some time on the slopes, especially during the Christmas holiday. Some of the best and most affordable ski resorts in the world are located in La Plagne, Tignes, Les Deux Alpes, Meribel, and Val d’Isere, France. Most of these lodges also offer ski deals for groups booking together, so families can save hundreds of dollars on lodging and lift tickets.

When planning the trip, parents should make sure to find a location that meets all of the needs of each family member. Younger children may require extra supervision or lessons, especially if parents plan to hit the more advanced slopes on their own. Many of the qualified ski instructors are specially trained in teaching children how to enjoy skiing, which can often end up becoming a lifelong hobby that can be enjoyed for many years to come. Most of the advanced skiers have been practicing the sport since childhood, and they in turn can pass this hobby on to future generations as well.

Families are sure to love their relaxing vacation to the beautiful mountains of France, and when booking as a group the discounts can be plentiful which makes the trip much more affordable and enjoyable for all. When utilizing a booking website, the agents can often assist in finding airline tickets, comfortable and luxurious accommodations, and fine dining, often located right within the lodge. They can also give recommendations as to which resorts offer the most family-friendly atmosphere, and which may have more of an adult party-style feel. Family members can spend time together, whether they choose to be on the slopes or sipping hot chocolate near the fire, on a beautiful vacation to the slopes in France.

Do you like traveling? Do you like exploring new places, meeting new people? If yes then you must be an avid traveler. There are many individuals who turn their everyday travel into an enjoyable experience. These individuals are happier even in traffic jams. Here are few tips for one and all. These tips are applicable for almost all kinds of travel plans. First and foremost, decide the place that you want to travel to. Next thing would be decide the purpose of travel. One may travel because of their routine jobs, or for a meeting or for a vacation. Now depending on the purpose of your travel, select your clothes.

Traveling for office may require formal attire, whereas traveling for vacation would need you to dress down. If you are going to be back in a day, you may not require a spare set of clothes. However if you are going to travel for longer span then it advised that you carry all the essentials with you. It is good idea to travel light. Choose clothes that can be mixed and matched to create variations. Take two pairs of shoes. Stock up on essential undergarments. One should find out about the climate and the culture of the place that one is going to, so as to carry appropriate clothes. There is no point carrying heavy clothes to place that has tropical climate.

Similarly carrying cotton clothes to places where the atmosphere is cold just doesn’t make sense. Check online about the place that you are about to travel to. It is always good to collect as much as information possible so that you are not stranded.

In our fast paced lives, we are running from place to place for our work. Everyone is competing with each other. The board room stress is reflected in family. Many parents do not have sufficient time with their family. Same goes with children; they are burdened with getting higher marks and also excelling sports and other extracurricular activities. They too need a break. One or two days of work off cannot help you to rejuvenate oneself. Weekends are generally spent on catching up things. Here comes the importance of taking a vacation.

Vacation allows you to move away from your daily responsibilities and relax. It gives an opportunity to the parents to provide undivided attention to their children. For children vacation is the time that they are not bothered about studies or homework or classes. It is their time, time to enjoy and unwind. It is important that you go to different places to spend your vacation. You should not visit the same places as it creates boredom. One can plan their vacation in advance to avail the cheap booking rates on hotel and transportation. This will allow you to spend more money on sightseeing and souvenirs. Cheap vacation options are available with different tour operators. One can choose from the wide range of places. You could uncover the rustic safari or enjoy the natural beauty of green villages or you could simply unwind at the golden beaches.

Ensure that you do not carry office work on vacation because that is bound to upset your kids. Inform your colleagues that you may not have access to mails and would have limited access to your phone, so they need to manage it without you. Ensure that you spend quality time with your spouse and your children. For newly married couples, vacation can be an excellent time to bond together and understand each other deeply.

If the time has come for a family vacation, this can certainly be a happy time. With plenty of choices and opportunities, you have several options in terms of where to spend a week or weekend. Surely, the whole family will have no problems coming to a simple consensus. Well, perhaps not. However, don’t fret if the whole family can’t agree immediately.

When you’re on your vacation, take advantage of activities that you have planned. You may also want to check out nearby locations, such as a city 20 or 30 minutes away, for more fun options. Don’t forget to send Grandma and Grandpa postcards before you hit the giant drop on the roller coaster!

One way to help decide where to go is to see what type of activities interest each member of the family. For instance, if you have young children, they may enjoy an amusement or water park. Once you have a good idea of these factors, you will be able to determine potential locations for the family vacation. Many resort destinations, for instance, offer a great deal of flexibility in terms of activities. The children can get what they want, and the parents can enjoy some exciting activities, as well.

Be sure to look up possibilities. Don’t forget to compare all aspects of the vacation destinations, including what is offered there and prices. All-inclusive resorts may have some good deals to take advantage of, including amenities that are perfect for a family (pool, golf course, childcare, etc.).

Planning and enjoying a family vacation is important to get a much-needed rest and some great family time. Consider some reasonable options for the family vacation, in terms of your budget, time and other factors. With some research and discussions, your family will have a much easier time reaching a consensus on the location.

Transportation refers to movement of goods and people from one place to another. In pre-historic times, primitive man used to travel by foot. Man learned the art of domesticating animals, this led to further evolution. After few decades, the Stone Age man started using animals for transport. Horses, mules, donkeys and elephants were commonly used Stone Age man. Invention of wheel bought a massive change in the way one traversed. Wheel bought about the changes and the speed that primitive man could not have imagined. Bullock carts were the first form of transport with wheels, once the primitive man realized that comfort and the speed in which he could travel, he started looking for other means of transport.

Slowly man realized that he could also use horse drawn carts and carriages for better speed. Tiny seats were placed on elephants and the kings and the royal men would travel on them. Ladies would travel in palanquin which was carried by about 4 people. Palanquin is a small box shaped place which is supported by one or two poles. A person can sit comfortably in these palanquins. The earlier bullock carts and horse drive carts were open, however later man added enclosures to protect the travelers from heat and rain.

Gradually over a period of time, man realized the importance of fuels. The first steam engine invented by James watt, changed the world of transportation. The steam Engine was magnificent and unmatchable in terms of speed and comfort as compared to other modes of transportation. Slowly and gradually steam engine led to popularity of railways. The use of coal and steam was prominent in ships. Earlier people would swim across the river or travel in small boats as waterways. These small boats were not safe and were easy to be overturned in even the slightest of the wing or rough weather.

Texas consistently ranks among the fastest growing states in the country. The population has been steadily growing for several years and the Lone Star State now has the second most people in the country behind only California. Arlington, Austin and San Antonioare three of the cities witnessing a population boom and even the recession has not been able to slow it down. Many people are taking trips to Texas to find out why it is attracting so many people and a number of the visitors like it so much they have decided to stay.

Arlington is especially attractive because it is located right between Dallas and Fort Worth, and is home to professional football and baseball. The Dallas Cowboys just opened a new $1 billion stadium in Arlington which hosted Superbowl XLV. The Texas Rangers also call Arlington home and they represented the American League in the 2010 World Series. Seven million visitors come to Arlington every year to watch the sports team and visit the other attractions like the amusement park, Six Flags Over Texas.

In any town that has ever hosted the Superbowl, you know that there are a number of first class hotels, and Arlington is no exception. Visitors have a number of four and five star facilities to choose from. Many of the hotels are only a few years old and are in excellent condition. When you search for a hotel for your stay, check out online reviews from people who have been there recently to see how satisfied they were with the service and conditions. The hotels are competing for your business and Arlington property management companies know they need to deliver 100% customer satisfaction.

Even though it is now a bustling big city, Arlington started out as a frontier town. When you visit, travel the Pioneer Trail which passes through the early settlements and takes you past many of the historic buildings.

It is not uncommon for parents to run into a situation where they need to come up with the money for a big purchase. Luckily, one of the best things that you can do is to start saving up early so that you have plenty of time to come up with the money that you need. Are you looking to save money so that you can purchase something large like a wedding or a vacation? Here is some beneficial information for your consideration:

First and foremost, you are going to want to cut down on your current expenses. If you cut down on how much money you are spending from month to month, then this surplus of money can automatically be applied to your savings account. This is one of the best ways for you to save some money because there are bound to be a number of ways that you can cut back just slightly and end up saving a lot of money in the process. For example, car refinancing is a great way for you to cut down your monthly payment on your car loan, and this is going to allow you to save some money that you can put away for a rainy day.

Another idea for you to consider is couponing, which is the act of collecting and using coupons. If you do this correctly, which typing entails doing some research and reading first, then you are going to find it significantly simpler to save money with all of the purchases that you make. There are plenty of other things that you can do as well included refinancing your mortgage, holding a garage sale and otherwise tweaking and changing your finances and your bills so that you can save as much money as possible every month. A little bit of trimming and cutting can have a profoundly positive impact on your finances.

Traveling with your family is a great way to connect and bond. However if you bring your pet along there can be even more great times to have, but there are certainly things you need to think about before you dive in and just do it.

Traveling with a pet requires much more planning than any other type of travel because you have to be very careful where you book to stay. Many hotels and motels either do not allow pets or have strict rules about the size and type of pets that are allowed to stay.

Once you have chosen your accommodations you still have other considerations. Depending on the time of year, you may not be able to leave your pet in the car to go in somewhere so your meals may have to be fast food or picnic foods. This is fine, but if your family is used to eating at fine restaurants this can be a shock.

Your pet will need somewhere to go to the bathroom that is comfortable for them as well as not offensive to other travelers or owners of the establishments. This can be hard to do, but many rest areas offer pet potty areas and simply require you clean up the solid waste.

Don’t forget to bring plenty of your pets favorite foods, toys and blankets when you travel. You want your pet to be comfortable and happy during the trip as well as when he or she is resting for the evening.

Hopefully your vacation with your pet turns out wonderful, it will be great as long as you put plenty of thought into how to keep your pet and family happy during the trip.

Just because you have children now does not mean that you have to sacrifice going first class. You can still stay in luxury hotels and travel in the manner that you are accustomed to with a little extra planning. Luxury travel deals are available if you are willing to invest the time to shop around.

You can find a number of luxury hotels in Chicago that are very family friendly and will work hard to make sure that all of your needs are met, as well as the needs of your children. A luxury hotel Chicago style close to the Magnificent Mile is a great place to spend the week and enjoy world-class shopping. They can even arrange a baby sitter so that you can go out at night to one of the local jazz or comedy clubs. Chicago is also a wonderful spot to take in a Broadway show at one of the downtown historic theaters.

In addition to catering to parents, many luxury hotels are discovering that they must offer exciting activities for children. It is no longer enough to just have a videogame system in the rooms. Resorts are opening themed rooms just for kids and staging special events to keep the young ones occupied so the parents can go off on their own to play.

Even the restaurants at luxurious hotels around the world are expanding their menus to accommodate families who are travelling with their children. World-famous establishments are offering grilled cheese and chicken fingers for the kids, keeping the parents, who have five-star tastes, happy. Room service at these top hotels is also expanding to include child favorites. It is very common now to find breakfast foods like cereal and french toast on the menu for a quick in-room meal before heading out for the day.

If you have older children, a great option for your family may be traveling for the holidays. This is a great choice because there are usually some special deals during the holiday and you will also save time and money by not having to decorate your home or get it ready for company or a big Christmas dinner.

Another option is that the trip can be part of the family’s gift. Then you are not lugging tons of presents all over the place. With older children, there may not be many things they need or want that they can’t buy themselves.

This may not work so well if you have younger children because they are likely very into the traditional holiday aspects like decorating the home and waiting for Santa to come. However if done carefully, you may be able to pull this off even with younger children.

Your family will be able to bond and connect while you travel in ways that you can’t the rest of the year. Something about being cooped up in a car or plane together for hours will allow you to learn more about each other and enjoy each other’s company.

Traveling during the holidays is a completely different experience than a summer vacation. Your family will love the new experiences and this may become a new family tradition. If this sounds like something your family may like, you should start talking about it today, because it can take time to plan a major trip, especially during the holidays when there tend to be more overcrowded flights and may be weather delays to prepare for. No matter what you choose, your holiday trip will help make memories that last a lifetime.

Investing successfully can be a challenge even in the best of times. In an economy such as the one we are living in now, it can be even harder to invest wisely. But the savvy investor knows how to make money even during an economic downturn and lately, many of these investors are building or buying apartment buildings and achieving great financial results.

Apartments are a good investment for a variety of reasons. In college towns, apartment buildings are a hot commodity. These towns are full of students and young graduates who need affordable housing. Raleigh apartments, for example, rent very well and provide their owners with an excellent, stable income.

If you are interested in investing in apartment buildings, you’ll first want look at properties with a real estate agent to see what is available in your target community. Your agent should also be able to help you analyze current rental trends in the community. You may find that there is a shortage of apartments, and it may make sense for you to build an apartment complex.

Next, you will want to consider your financing options. You can check out online resources or talk to your banker about different ways to structure the deal. Different loan amounts have different financing requirements. Your credit score and your net worth will affect the quality of the deal you are able to put together.

Once you get your apartments purchased or built, you will want to fill them with quality tenants. From a landlord’s perspective, a long-term renter is better because it minimizes your risk and the money you will need to invest to refresh the apartment between renters. You will want to screen your tenants well and do a full background check before they sign a lease. Apartment buildings filled with quality tenants can mean years of good, steady investment income.

When you are traveling, one of the biggest decisions you will make is where to eat your meals. If you stay in a room or suite with a kitchen you may want to make some of your meals in the room. This is a great way to save money and have the flexibility to eat foods that everyone can agree on. But, this isn’t usually going to be an option, so you will have to find restaurants that will meet the needs of your entire family.

Fast food is a great way to satisfy the kids, but you and your spouse are likely going to get tired of it pretty quickly. There are many things you can do to make a fast food meal a bit more palatable though. Usually breakfast is pretty tasty, and is enough of a change from the hamburgers to make it feel different. Also there are many fast food restaurants that serve soup and salad. This is a great meal that will satisfy many tastes.

If you just have to eat at a real restaurant, you may want to pick one with a large and varied menu so your children can find something that will suit their needs. Restaurants like Chili’s and Applebee’s have meals that are a bit nicer for the adults but they also have chicken fingers and hamburgers to keep your kids happy. Another popular option is Waffle House or the other diner style restaurants. They normally serve a varied menu that will satisfy everyone.

One final thing to consider is trying the local favorites wherever you are traveling. This can be hard to do if you have picky eaters, but is a great way to experience new foods and find a new favorite. Do some research on the internet before your trip begins and you will likely find some place new and exciting that has foods that will satisfy your entire family.

Everyone needs a vacation sometimes; we must take a hiatus from the stresses of life in order to remain sane. What can be difficult is determining where to go. If your budget is limited, you may be forced to choose between a beautiful destination with sub-par accommodations and a five star hotel in a place that leaves much to be desired.

Nice Place, Crummy Hotel

Your funds might allow you to visit spectacular locations like New York City, San Diego, Orlando or even Venice. However, if you have a tight budget, you have to choose what portions of your trip to splurge on and which ones to keep more contained. Your flights will likely take up much of your budget; then there’s food and entertainment – two very important aspects of a trip. In the end, you might be willing to settle for a simple place to lay your head at night rather than seizing a luxury hotel.

The thing is, you get what you pay for, and a sub-par hotel may not just lack in pretty decor. You’ll likely have to deal with poor customer service, sparse housekeeping, and nothing but toast and bagels at the continental breakfast. You might book a room with a king-sized bed and kitchenette, only to arrive and find it was given to someone else and the only thing available is what you would consider a closet with a mattress inside.

A place like this can ruin any fabulous destination. Utilize these tips to save money and still enjoy your hotel stay:

● With a five star rating system, stick with something in the three star range – it will be accommodating, yet not too expensive

● Read reviews – if everyone says that a lower-end hotel is a surprisingly great place to stay, then take advantage of that

● Call a few days before your trip to confirm that your reservations are just as you requested

● Stay at higher rated hotels during the week to save money (weekend rates are always higher)

● Skip the hotel and end up renting a vacation home- more space, less restrictions and noise.
Fabulous Quarters, Second-Tier Destination

Another option is to splurge on spectacular accommodations in a place that doesn’t see as much tourist traffic. These types of locations are all over the map, maybe even just a short drive from where you live. Staying in a great cabin vacation rental on a nearby lake can provide the relaxing atmosphere you desperately needed. Even if there isn’t much to do at your destination of choice other than cozy little shops and hiking trails, coming together with your loved ones to get away from life’s troubles for a while can make it all worth it.

Look for places with these amenities to make any vacation spot much more enjoyable:

● Fully equipped kitchen to have quiet meals together

● Hot tub, Jacuzzi, or spa for ultimate relaxation

● King-sized bed with a pillow-top for sleeping comfort

● Multiple rooms so everyone can have their own space

● A great view

● Roomy bathrooms
When on a tight vacation budget, the option that works best for you depends upon your personal priorities and preferences. If you had to make a choice, which route would you go? Share your thoughts below.

When you have children of different ages you may wonder where you should go for a family vacation. Your youngest children may be too young to fully appreciate a vacation destination like Disney World or Epcot Center, while your oldest children may get bored if you stay close to home. There are many things you have to consider, but you can find a destination that will satisfy everyone if you just do some thinking.

Anywhere that has water readily available will likely keep most of your family happy. A lake or beach will give you something to do with the little ones, and also provide entertainment for your older children. This may not be a great choice if you have older children who can’t swim however, because they will want to get out in the water and you may not have the opportunity to help them if you are keeping an eye and hand on a little one.

Another great choice is an all inclusive resort. Many of these resorts will have babysitting or childcare facilities available so you will be able to get out and spend time with your older children too. Additionally there may be activities geared especially for them, there may be a teen club or other activities they will enjoy too.

If this is out of the budget, there are many campgrounds that offer the same type of activities but on a smaller scale. This is a great way to bond with your children as a family, because you will likely be staying together in a camper or small cabin. This is one way to connect as you will be able to talk and hang out as a family as well as spending time apart doing the things that will interest you individually.

No matter what you choose for your vacation, you will certainly have a great time if the family all comes into it with open minds. Good Luck!

After the hibernation of winter, when the temperatures begin to rise and the first wildflowers bloom, travelers suddenly have the urge to hit the road again. Spring travel is one of the most fulfilling. Instead of packing along snow boots and extra layers, you can look forward to the first chances of the year to go hiking, dine al fresco, or just generally not freeze your little tush off. Read on to discover the five best spring destinations.

1. Florida

Whether you’re looking for vacation rentals in Miami or Orlando, spring is a great time of year to visit the Sunshine State. Temperatures will be warm, but not yet hot or humid, and after a long winter, the opportunity to work on your golden tan will be much welcomed. If you’re planning a trip to Disney World, the summer crowds haven’t arrived in the spring season, meaning less waiting and more rides for you.

2. Colorado

Sure, many travelers head to Colorado in the winter to hit the slopes. But increasingly, the pleasures of the warmer seasons in Colorado have become all the craze. When all the snow melts away, beautiful hiking trails are revealed. The spring is an ideal time to visit for white water rafting and catching a glimpse at the first wildflowers of the season. Get ready to breathe that fresh mountain air.

3. Vermont

Has winter left you feeling all cooped-up? Spring is the best time to plan an outdoor adventure vacation, and Vermont has it all. From cozy cabins complete with fireplaces and Jacuzzis, to miles of hiking trails, opportunities for fishing, and mountain biking, your entrance back to Mother Nature will be a fantastic one. Who says a beach vacation is the best spring trip?

4. Hawaii

Some travelers want to reward themselves for surviving the long, harsh winter. What better reward could there be than a trip to Hawaii? These exotic islands have something to offer every type of traveler – whether you want to spend your days soaking up the sun, sipping on cocktails, learning to surf, or heading out on a whale watching tour. The weather is perfect during the spring season, so buy a new bathing suit and get ready for a Hawaiian adventure.

5. Arizona and the Grand Canyon

Are you looking to plan the type of family trip your kids will never forget? If so, the Grand Canyon is the perfect spot. Here you can spend your days horseback riding, hiking, and maybe even taking a helicopter tour over the canyon. At night in the vacation rental it will be time for ghost stories and roasting marshmallows over the fire. Welcome spring this year with a bang!

From the beaches to the mountains and beyond, spring is a great time of year for travelers. Whether you want to cut loose and party or relax on the beach, there are many destinations that shine brightest in the months of spring- and sites like HomeAway that can help you find the perfect vacation home to enjoy the beach from.

More great options include the beaches of Mexico, the islands of the Caribbean, and the California coast. What destination is highest on your wish list this spring?

When your child gets to be a teenager you figure traveling with them is easy. And while it is significantly easier than traveling with a small child, it will likely have its own struggles.

One battle that you are likely to fight with your child is the battle over the radio. Chances are you may not agree on what radio station to listen to. If your normal stations are on completely different wavelengths maybe you want to try something completely different for the trip. Oldies or Country music are often interesting enough to entertain everyone in the car. If you can’t agree on a radio station maybe a book on tape would be appropriate. There are many great classics or fantasy type novels that can entertain everyone in the car from age 8 to 80.

Another problem you may have when traveling with a teen is where to stop and eat. They may be happy with fast food every meal, but your taste buds want something a bit more refined. There are many choices that may satisfy both parties. A restaurant like Applebee’s or Chili’s will have some more refined options for the adults, but they also offer hamburgers and cheese sticks for the kids.

There will likely be some arguments, but traveling with your teen is a great way to bond. Playing car games may seem lame, but I bet after a few hours they will be ready to try something to pass the time. The classic alphabet game or car bingo are always hits but there are tons of games available on the internet if you do a quick browse on a search engine. No matter what you choose to do during the ride, you will have a great trip and connect with your child if you both come into the trip with open minds. This trip may be one that makes memories that last a lifetime.

Canada is divided into ten provinces, and it’s not unusual to see a number of different cultures within each individual province, as they encompass different regions of the country. Each of those cultures has its own unique cuisine.

For example, in those regions that are referred to as “English” Canada, the cuisine will be very similar to that of the Americans and British. In “French Canada,” which includes Quebec with its very strong French influence, the cuisine will follow that of those countries or areas that embrace all things French.
In those provinces located in the western portion of Canada, the cuisine is influenced by German, Ukrainian, Polish, and Scandinavian cultures. Further, you can also see the influence on cuisine that was introduced by the Doukhobors-those people of Russian descent who follow vegetarian dietary customs.

No matter which region you are in, however, the cuisine in each place will have one thing in common. That is Canada’s propensity to use fresh seasonal ingredients as well as preserves made from local berries and other fruits. You may be surprised to learn that the Chinese have had a strong influence on Canadian cuisine also. And, don’t forget about the traditional Canadian cuisine that is found in the Arctic and Canadian Territories. This cuisine relies heavily on wild game, which is prepared using methods that have been practiced by Inuit and First Nations peoples for centuries.
This wild game can include just about anything from moose to caribou (reindeer) to elk, and the wild game served will often be very fresh. That’s because wild game hunting is one of the most popular outdoor sports in Canada, enjoyed by Canadians as well as Americans who live close to or travel to Canada for this purpose. In addition, Canadians enjoy serving food that they have actually picked or gathered themselves. Canada 411can give you specifics on different restaurants and their contact information.

Traveling with a toddler can be one of the hardest ways to travel. When they are babies they will likely sleep much of the trip or be satisfied with a bottle, but when they are toddlers and not yet old enough to read or watch a video for longer than a ten minute stretch you will really have to be creative to keep them occupied.

One main thing to keep in mind is that you should always have food. Frequent small snacks of your toddler’s favorite foods are a great way to keep them busy. They will be so busy eating they won’t have a chance to get too bored. Just make sure you bring plenty of juice or milk and get them up to try and potty or change their pull up often. You don’t want to make them sit in a wet diaper for too long because they’ve been drinking so much.

Another easy form of entertainment is drawing. Crayola has their new color wonder line of products that allow coloring without the mess. These markers only show up on the special paper so any accidents are kept to a minimum. They have coloring books as well as plain paper kits so if your child prefers regular drawing or coloring they can have their needs met in a very neat and clean way.

Make sure you bring your child’s favorite stuffed animal or blanket so they can be comfortable. Just because they are past the baby stage does not mean they won’t be able to have a nap or two in a long car trip or flight.

Finally, having new items is always a good choice. It doesn’t matter what it is, as long as it is new and unfamiliar to the toddler it will provide at least a few moments of peace for you. Just make sure anything you bring will be easy to clean up and keep contained in the car.

If you’re planning to go on vacation, but you have a tight budget, read the following information. These tips that will help you have a great vacation without breaking the bank.

If you’re watching your money closely, you can participate in activities that do not cost a lot like swimming or hiking. You can also save some money by taking a trip to a national park. Instead of going to a baseball game, you could watch a minor league game. Instead of going to a Broadway show, you could go to a theater.

Before you buy your plane tickets, experiment with the dates. It is cheaper to fly on Mondays and Tuesdays. If you fly during the week, the airport will also be less crowded.

If you want to save some cash, you may want to consider skipping the hotel. Consider renting a house, studio, or small apartment. If you end up staying at a hotel, you can always negotiate for a lower price or have them throw in free parking or breakfast.

You should find a place that has a kitchenette if you want to save money. That way, you can purchase groceries and make most of your meals while you are on vacation. If you dine out every day, you will end up spending a lot of money. If you choose to dine out, you can save money by going to diners and fast food restaurants. You can also save money by packing snacks and bottles of water.

Airlines have been tacking on extra fees for many things lately, so make sure you only pack the things you need. Keep your bags under 50 pounds because some airlines charge extra money for heavy luggage. If you plan ahead and travel smart, you will still have a memorable vacation and you will fatten your wallet.

Romantic travel, honeymoon, and wedding destinations have become very popular in the travel industry. Whether you’re taking a trip with your partner for the first time or renewing your vows, take romance to a higher level and book a romantic vacation. These travel ideas will help you light the flame.

California and Las Vegas are wonderful destinations for your getaway. You and your partner can dine out in California or spend your nights dancing and partying in Las Vegas. San Francisco has one of the best Chinatown’s in the world and excellent walking tours.

If you want to spend your romantic vacation on the beach, plan a weekend in the Bahamas or Florida. There will be plenty of things to do when you’re there. Relax with your partner on the beach before you dine out alongside the waterfront.
For a secluded getaway, book a vacation to St. Lucia or Fiji. Private beaches and bungalows abound at these wonderful beach destinations. It may take you a while to get there, but the experience is worth it.

New Orleans is also a great place for romantic getaways. Few things are sexier than taking a midnight stroll through the French Quarter or the music pumping from smoke-filled nightclubs and upscale bars.

New York is the city that never sleeps and it’s a great place for lovers. Check out the Broadway shows in New York City or cuddle up on the upper west side of Manhattan. Book a New York hotel and spend your evenings exploring Manhattan. Have dinner at a fine restaurant or take a walk through Central Park. Finish your night with a few glasses of champagne at a nightclub, bar, or famous New York hotel bar. These romantic travel ideas are fun and spicy, and they will reignite your love flame.

Harrisburg, Pennsylvania is a city rich in history and tradition as depicted so well in its many museums.

Perhaps the quintessential museum in the city is the renowned National Civil War Museum, a beautifully designed tribute to the human side of the country’s struggle against itself. The museum, which features more than 4,400 artifacts and 21,000 archival pieces, prides itself on showing a balanced portrayal of Union and Confederate soldiers as well as the men and women during this time period.

Right from the start, you will be drawn into the history and people of this significant time in American history with the focus on slavery. You will be enlightened, whether walking through the museum yourself, taking a guided tour or watching one of the educational presentations with actors depicting that time period.

One of the lesser-known gems of Harrisburg’s museums is the Pennsylvania National Fire Museum, dedicated to the history of firefighting and fire prevention. You will be impressed by the fire engines on display and captivated by the historical information focusing on the Harrisburg area without ignoring the work of firefighters throughout the nation, including those who served in New York City on Sept. 11,2001.

For those interested specifically in the history and culture of Pennsylvania stands the State Museum of Pennsylvania. The four-floor museum is full of artifacts, innovations, and military objects illustrating the history of the state. An added feature is a multi-media planetarium.

There are options for those more interested in the artistic culture of the city and state at the Susquehanna Art Museum, which displays four seasonal exhibits each year. A unique attraction is the Doll House Museum, open from June through the end of the year, presenting more than 5,000 dolls from as far back as 1840 in a life-sized Victorian Doll House.

No matter what your area of interest, there is a museum for you in historic Harrisburg.

If you have never been to the Inner Harbor in Baltimore, Maryland, you owe yourself the opportunity to visit one of the most scenic and enjoyable vacation spots in the U.S.

With several hotels in the area, you are walking distance from some of the finest attractions in Baltimore. One place no one should miss is the National Aquarium, featuring more than 660 species of animals and 16,500 animals. Whether it is the dolphin show, the 4-D theater or just a spectacular view of the animals, there is no shortage of entertainment.

The Baltimore Water Taxi is an affordable way to get around the harbor, while the Spirit of Baltimore offers lunch and dinner cruises all year around. For the history buff, there is a water taxi ride to Fort McHenry, the site of “The Battle of Baltimore” in 1814 that inspired Francis Scott Key to pen the Star-Spangled Banner. The Baltimore Maritime Museum features the USS Constellation, the only Civil War ship still floating.

No sports fan will want to miss the opportunity to visit Oriole Park at Camden Yards, home of the Baltimore Orioles and one of the most scenic of all sports facilities in the nation. The site includes the Sports Legends Museum, featuring an interactive experience with artifacts on the city’s most famous teams and athletes, including Cal Ripken Jr., Johnny Unitas, and Baltimore-born Babe Ruth. Just two blocks away is the Babe Ruth Birthplace and Museum.

The World Trade Center in Baltimore is the world’s tallest equilateral five-sided building, but its most impressive feature is the “Top of the World” Observation Level on the 27th floor. While the harbor area is beautiful from ground level, it is breathtaking with its panoramic view of the city, the harbor, and surrounding areas from the observation level. You may want to start here and plan out your trip with the guided maps to this beautiful city.

Although on some days it may seem like you already live in one, a family trip to the zoo can be a fun adventure for the whole family.

While individual admissions can be a bit pricey, annual memberships provides a good value. In addition, membership in some zoos affords you benefits at other zoos, like reduced entrance fees and gift shop discounts. Some zoos also have “member entries” so you can avoid standing in line.

Another way to cut your costs is to pack lunch and snacks. While not all zoos allow outside food on their grounds, often you can leave the zoo and be readmitted once you’ve had your lunch.

If you prefer to miss the crowds, be prepared to visit the zoo on a weekday or early in the day. For those in colder climates, winter can be a quiet time at the zoo. The crowds are gone and the animals tend to be more active. Just remember to dress appropriately.

While planning your trip to the zoo, consider bringing along binoculars and cameras. Binoculars give you a better chance of seeing animals up close. Zoos can be great place for taking wildlife photographs.

Most zoos now have activities that appeal to everyone in the family. In addition to viewing and learning about the animals, there are play areas, monorails, treasure hunts and unique animal presentations (Feeding the Sharks is a favorite).

Beyond your visit, many zoos have a newsletters or website and you can follow the animals, learn about conservation efforts, or help name new arrivals. Camps and other learning opportunities for children are also offered. Membership gets you a discount if these activities sound interesting.

So plan a day of fun at the local zoo soon. And watch out for the little monkeys- yours and theirs.

When considering trips to take with the kids, don’t forget to think about your state parks. There are many things to do and they don’t all involve sleeping on the ground and cooking food on a stick!

Hiking

Children of any age can enjoy hiking with the family. For the younger set, there are stroller friendly paved trails. Look (and listen) for birds, bugs, and interesting plants.

For families with older children more difficult trails offer a challenge for the whole family. Many lead to scenic overviews or unique habitats.

Look for information about trail difficulty and distance at the trailhead. This usually is posted at trail access points but may also be available from park rangers.

Geo caching is offered by many state parks and can add a sense of adventure to a family hike. Hikers as young as eight use a GPS (often provided by the park) to find various checkpoints until they reach the cache or strongbox which holds a small trinket for the finder.

Fishing

Many parks have lakes or streams for the anglers in the family. For the novices, many parks have annual “Teach Your Kid to Fish” events. Just make sure to check your local regulations so that you have the proper license.

Programs

In addition to the traditional fare of nature tours and animal demonstrations, many parks now feature after-dark hikes, local history presentations, and demonstrations unique to your area (maple syrup and snowshoes in my neck of the woods).

Camping

And, of course, you can always go camping. Even if tents aren’t your thing, many parks now have small shelters that can be rented. These simple lodgings provide the basics: a roof and a place to sleep. For the absolute novices, many parks also have “Camping for Beginners” offerings.

State parks are camping and so much more. Click here http://www.stateparks.com/usa.html for more information about your state park.

For many adults, part of the fun of traveling is anticipating the trip- preparing and planning. This can be true for children as well. Getting your children involved in travel preparation builds excitement, gives control over an unfamiliar situation, and teaches a few life skills along the way.

Here are some tips:

Consider the children’s ages when determining when to share the news of your trip.

Children under four don’t understand time enough to appreciate travel that is weeks or months away. Best to involve them in simple ways and in small bits; mention the trip in daily conversation, ask your child what they look forward to or note some of the planned activities.

For older children, give more lead-time and let them dictate how they’d like to prepare. Maybe they would like to research your destination. Or count down on a calendar. Or think about what to pack.

Let the children pick some of the activities planned during the trip.

Even younger children can have input. Everyone will be more eager to participate if they’ve had a chance to shape the undertaking. Having everyone involved also teaches important negotiation skills.

Set the rules early.

Many times the rules go out the window during a family trip. It is important to maintain some adherence to your at home expectations. Lay it out plainly. “Remember that at our house we do things this way. Even though we are away from home, mom and dad’s rules still apply.”

Have plans but be flexible.

While you’ll want to have plans for the trip so that you can get the most out of it, be prepared to be flexible. If the children are absorbed in an activity, don’t rush them off to the next thing. If an activity doesn’t capture the kids’ interest, be prepared to move on.

The point is to have fun and spend time with your family- so be prepared to adjust.

A day at the beach can be, well, a real day at the beach. But when children are involved, its best to take a few simple steps to make sure everyone enjoys the trip.

Water Safety

Before the trip, consider each child’s comfort in the water AND your comfort with their swimming skills. Set the rules and remind everyone about them before each day’s swim.

Plan for rainy days

Inclement weather is disappointing for everyone. Be prepared by bringing along cards, board games or other activities that you can do as a family. Stage an impromptu talent contest or sing along. You may be surprised at how pleasant this unexpected time together can be.

Change of scenery

While everyone loves being at the beach, plan on some non-beach activities. Go see some local sites. Take a walking tour and learn a little bit of the local history. Simply taking the children to a nearby park can give everyone a needed break from the sun and sand.

Stay on schedule

As tempting as it is to put your children on “vacation time,” it is best to keep them on schedule. You may choose to shift bedtimes a little but be mindful about keeping nap and meal schedules. Tired and hungry kids equal frustrated parents.

Plenty of Sunscreen

May seem obvious, but don’t forget the sunscreen. Get a high SPF and reapply frequently. No need for a bad burn.

Know when to take a break

Even when you’ve decided to stay on the beach for the full day, it is best to take periodic breaks. Adults and children alike may need a little time away from the wind and the waves.

Remembering these simple rules will keep the kids happy…and that keeps Mom and Dad happy. That really is a day at the beach!

You may have read a number of travel blogs that are all about where to find cheap flights, what motels offer affordable rates, what attractions you can see for under $50, where you can get meals for a family of four without breaking the bank, and more. Yet, you may be scratching your head and having a hard time imagining where you might come up with the money for any of those things, let alone all of them. In that case, you can still have a Staycation. Popularized at the beginning of the economic downturn, a staycation happens when you go on a vacation…in your own home. Through careful planning, your staycation can be as satisfying as a trip to Bali. Here are some tips on how to plan a successful staycation:

Act like you are going away:request time off from work, ask the neighbors to take in your mail, put your phone and computer to the side. This is a vacation, and you need to cast off all the things that you would normally do at home as to preserve the idea that you are Going Away.

Plan a few activities around your interests: Do you love the theater? Rent a stack of movies of classics that you might otherwise see on the stage, like Les Miserables. Are you a gastronome? Plan an elaborate meal made of items you never used before. Would you like a tropical island vacation? Find some ocean-sound CDs at your public library, make some mai tais, and set up your towel in a sunny spot in your home. Don’t forget to slather on the sunscreen and lay around on the ‘beach’ as long as it takes to relax.

Choose your company: Do you want a romantic getaway with your spouse? Ask your in-laws to take care of the kids during your staycation, or plan activities to include everyone.

Have a wonderful time on your vacation!

While very few people have the time and financial resources to travel around the world, it does not mean you and your family cannot have a taste of different countries and cultures without going bankrupt.

Consider a food and educational “tour” of the world. Simply choose a country each week or each month, whatever works best for your schedule.

For each country you have chosen, do a little research on popular foods and decide which ones interest you and your family. Since it is your own tour of the world, you have the option of making recipes yourself and/or attending local restaurants featuring foods from the region you are studying.

You may be surprised to find a specialty store in your area that you were unaware of. It may be an Asian market , featuring foods from numerous Asian and nearby countries, or a Slavic store with homemade food from those born in Central or Eastern Europe.

Food is a wonderful way to learn about another culture, but working with your family to learn more about the country and its people has great benefits as well. Be sure to use reliable sources like books and almanacs to determine interesting facts to share with your family. It may be as simple as the predominant language spoken in the country or something more specific like its world rank in terms of being environmentally friendly.

The perfect complement to the worldly education is to have the opportunity to speak to someone familiar with the culture you are researching. Not only will you benefit from their personal life experience, but also you may learn something unique less likely to be found in any research material.

Your family will truly become more global without ever leaving your local area or spending a fortune.

For a family vacation spot that combines imagination and an amusement park with something for everyone, Sesame Place in Langhorne, Pennsylvania is a must-visit attraction.

Children will be drawn to the familiar Sesame Street characters, whether their favorites are posing for pictures, performing at “Monster Rock Theater” or captivating the crowd in the park’s traditional parades featuring 11 larger-than-life floats.

The combination of dry and wet rides will assure there is something for everyone, regardless of age and size. There are plenty of “All By Myself” areas for children of any age and height, but even children who do not meet height requirements can still enjoy any ride accompanied by a parent.

One cannot help but notice the “Vapor Trail” rollercoaster upon entering the park. It is the perfect experience for a rookie coaster rider, but has enough twists and turns to make it an interesting ride for veteran riders as well. The “Blast Off” is another favorite as children and adults giggle their way through the bouncing ride, including a great view of the park for those moments at the top.

The water rides are clearly park favorites, perfect for those many hot days throughout the summer and all through the park’s six-month season. “Bert & Ernie’s Slip & Slide” features a curling ride down a slide with a grand finish into a pool with lifeguards waiting to ensure your safety. “Sesame Streak” allows one or two riders to ride through a chute on the way to the splash pool.

One of the places which best typifies the joy and smiles of the park’s participants is “The Count’s Splash Castle” with multiple slides and levers. Be prepared for the screams of laughter when the 1,000-gallon eight-foot Count Dracula tipping bucket sends water all over the willing fun-seekers.

There are plenty more attractions and “Elmo’s Any 2-Day Ticket” is a great buy for a vacation that your family will never forget.

The internet can be a budget traveler’s best friend. No matter how far off the beaten path you want to go, the chances are high that you will be able to find solid travel advice and good deals online. There are many websites that can provide a good jumping-off point for your next trip. Here are just a few:

The New York Times Frugal Traveler Blog: You can find everything on this blog, from advice on how to avoid a travel scam to making a weekend trip for $100 and finding inexpensive transit tickets. This blog is authored by Seth Kugel, who makes a living traveling frugally and then writing about it. Mr. Kugel covers information about traveling not only in the United States, but throughout the world. He details his experiences in Boston, Buenos Aires, the Caribbean, and a multitude of other locations. He gives practical advice about choices that may be too frugal, like taking the bus long-distance, and is willing to make honest and occasionally negative reviews of attractions that can keep travelers from making mistakes that he has already covered.

Rick Seaney’s air travel blog:Rick Seaney runs an airfare search engine called FareCompare.com. Frequent fliers swear by his service, and his website includes the ability to subscribe to a service that sends Twitter feeds about airfares at your home airport to your Twitter account, so you can find out about flight deals on your mobile phone or home computer when you’re not even looking for them. Mr. Seaney posts daily blogs about pertinent air travel-related issues, like the best time of the week to get cheap tickets, how to avoid airline fees, and what your rights are when you have been bumped from a flight. Many members of the media rely on Rick Seaney for their air travel information, and perhaps you can too.

Check these and other sources of information for advice on good travel deals before your next trip.

Everyone is struggling with the economy these days. We all want to cut back on our spending, but we still want to take in new things, to learn, and to expand our horizons. One of the easiest way to do this is to locate museums in your area that either offer free admission or have free days when you can view collections without paying an admission charge. This can be especially helpful when you have a large family and admissions really add up quickly.

Here are some places that you can go for free:

In Los Angeles: The California Science Center is located in Exposition Park outside of the downtown area. Its wide variety of exhibits on Ecosystems, the World of Life, and Air and Space will appeal to a broad variety of people. The best part is that the Center focuses on hands-on activities where kids can learn by doing. The permanent exhibits are free, though there is a charge for IMAX movies.

If art is more interesting to you, the Museum of Contemporary Art has free admission every Thursday from 5-8 p.m. You can enjoy viewing works by well-known artists of the abstract expressionist period, photography, and others. This is a fantastic place to explore your inner Jasper Johns, and you can stop by right after work.

In New York City: Nurture your future Project Runway competitor by taking him or her to the Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology, which is always free. View exciting fashions from the Institute’s collection.

The Brooklyn Botanical Garden has free admission on Tuesdays, and also every weekday during the winter. There is a huge and diverse collection of plants that includes a Tropical Pavilion, a Bonsai Museum, and a Rose Garden. Some of these gardens are kept inside a conservatory and can be viewed at any time of year.

Be sure to seek out free opportunities in your area!

If you’re packing the family into the car for an extended drive, don’t leave the kids’ entertainment up to video games or iPods. One way to get your little ones to actually look forward to family road trips is to make a tradition out of presenting them with a goody bag at the start of the trip.

Find a small, inexpensive nylon backpack and make a trip to the dollar store for small age-appropriate toys and activities.

Tactile games such as Rubik’s Cubes and 15-16 puzzles (those little squares with plastic tiles that you have to slide around to solve a picture or pattern) provide hours of quiet focus and stimulate young brains.

A blank sketch pad and small box of crayons invites kids to draw pictures of the scenery outside their car window, visualize their destination or write love notes to their grandparents.

Mad Libs or joke and puzzle books are great for school-age kids and help develop reading and language skills. Plus, everyone needs a repertoire of knock-knock jokes.

A couple of packages of cookies or crackers are a treat – but don’t go overboard with sugary sweets. Having some small snacks at their disposal also helps kids feel more in control of their excursion if they don’t have to beg you for food.

Make sure to include at least one familiar doll, action figure or stuffed animal from your child’s room. You might be surprised to see him taking on the role of “tour guide,” showing Binky the sights on his trip.

Pack the goody bag in secret and then present it to your child once he’s securely buckled into his seat and meeting your expectations for his behavior. To make the contents last longer and increase their surprise quotient, make it a rule that the goody bag can only be opened at a specific point on the trip, such as 10 miles from home.

For young families, Walt Disney World is the Mecca, the Nirvana, the Mount Olympus of all vacations. Unquestionably, you’ll find countless things to do, see and enjoy, no matter your age.

But there are ways to make sure your Disney World experience is maximized for fun. Here are some tips to help you get the most out of the mouse:

Plan to spend about 5 days at the resort. There are four theme parks, each as large as Disneyland in California, and two water parks. You can prioritize your time at each according to your family’s preferences. Hint: Epcot, with its international theme, may be more interesting for junior-high and older than for little ones.

Avoid big events after dark. Some outdoor performances occur two or three times a day. If you wait to see the last one, you’ll be fighting a moving crowd of tired, cranky tourists. Trying to keep track of small kids in this setting, in the dark, produces more anxiety than you need on a vacation.

Try to keep your nutrition reasonable. Splurging on a treat once (maybe twice) a day is de rigeur, but make sure your kids are getting plenty of real food for the bulk of their diet. Nothing ruins a day like a hyper crisis caused by a sugar high, followed by a temper tantrum due to the resulting blood sugar crash combined with sore feet.

Break up your days. Even the most magical of kingdoms is exhausting for more than a few hours at a time. Spend your mornings at a park; then return to your hotel room for a rest or a swim. The almost-daily rain showers that hit central Florida in the midafternoon provide a good excuse to grab a quick nap. Then go back with renewed energy and have more fun.

Finding a subject that the whole family can enjoy exploring can be a challenge while traveling. There can be conflict between the sports fan, the nature lover, and the culture vulture, all of whom want to take their own direction. One subject that has near-universal appeal is paleontology. Who can resist the imaginative power of the fossil? There are lots of great places across North America to take your family to enjoy learning about fossils, some of which might be in your own back yard. National Parks are a great resource, and are economically priced as well. Here are just a few public parks that specialize in fossils:

John Day Fossil Beds National Monument- located near the town of Kimberly, in eastern Oregon. The famed fossil beds hold treasures that are as old as 54 million years, and are mostly botanical in nature. There are active paleontologists working in this park. There is a museum and lab on site where the scientists catalog their collections. There are great opportunities for hiking, fishing, and rafting here. Best of all, the entrance fee is free.

Fossil Butte National Monument-located in western Wyoming, south of the Grand Tetons. This park has a wide variety of different fossils, including mammals, reptiles, and birds. There is a visitor’s center with lots of information about the fossils, and some hiking trails. Summer is the best time to visit, and admission is free. Donations are accepted.

Badlands National Park-located in South Dakota, and with a rich collection of mammalian fossils. Some fossils include saber-toothed tigers and camels. It is hard to imagine what life was like in the ancient past, but the resources at the Badlands can help you to begin. This area is famed for its beautiful colors and great hiking. A seven-day fee is only $15.

Be sure to visit the National Park Service’s website to learn more about these and other fossil resouces.

When you’ve exhausted all the coloring books and the PSP batteries have run out, it’s time for some good old healthy family interaction. Here’s a game that’s great for long car rides – it inspires creativity, promotes cooperation, does away with competition and might even produce some memorable artwork.

Monster – For 2 to 5 players, preschool to adult. Player 1 starts at the top of a sheet of blank paper. Covering the paper so no one else can see, he draws the head of a monster, with two lines extending downward for the neck. The drawing can be scary or silly, creepy or cute – just don’t let anyone else see it! He then folds the top of the paper over his drawing, leaving the ends of the neck lines visible.

Player 2 then takes over, and without looking at Player 1′s work, draws the chest and arms of the monster, connecting to the neck lines left by Player 1. She extends two lines for the belly and folds the paper down over her drawing so just the ends of the belly lines show.

Player 3 draws the belly and the beginning of the legs, so that he leaves four lines showing – two for each leg. Player 4 draws the legs and leaves lines for the feet; Player 5 finishes with feet and toes. He folds the paper completely over and passes it back to Player 1.

All hold their breath as Player 1 slowly unfolds the paper and body part by body part, the monster is revealed – usually to howls of laughter.

You can adapt Monster for fewer players by taking turns or combining body sections (head, torso, legs/feet). Use a No. 2 pencil for quick games, colored pencils or crayons for more artistic results. Don’t use markers; they show through the paper and ruin the surprise.

Ah, the family road trip. Everybody’s got memories of packing the car with suitcases and travel bags, snacks and activities, and hitting the highway for an extended drive to somewhere special.

As adults, we’ve got plenty of things to occupy our time, like navigating or keeping the driver alert. But the back seat might as well be a seatbelted and padded cell of boredom for the younger set.

If your vehicle doesn’t have a built-in DVD player, or if your kids are too young to be entertained solely by iPods, try introducing some old-fashioned travel games to your little tykes. The ability to entertain themselves is a skill that will benefit them hugely throughout their lives.

Alphabet Signs – For preschoolers through adults. The object is to “collect” all the letters of the alphabet, in order, when you see them on highway signs, billboards, storefronts, etc. Set ground rules first: Do the signs have to be fixed, or can you use letters off moving vehicles? Can you get more than one letter from the same sign? Will players race each other to be the first to find all 26 letters, or will the group look for each letter until someone spots it? Hint: The younger the players, the looser the rules should be.

This game is best played in well-populated areas with lots of signage. Don’t try it on those barren strips of Midwest highway – your players will soon lose interest.

A handy aid, and an educational one for those still learning their alphabet, is to have each player make a “scorecard” before the game starts. Write the alphabet in large block letters on a piece of paper. Then cross off each one as it is spotted. This helps all the players remember which letter is in play. Happy traveling!

When thinking about a holiday vacation the immediate notion might be to escape the cold and snow of winter head somewhere to soak up the sun. While that might work for some families, for travelers seek to stay within a reasonable budget flying during a peak travel season might cause more stress over prohibitive costs that provide people with an escape from reality.

For northerners seeking a holiday vacation the answer does not always have to be trading snow for sand. Plenty of affordable and fun vacations do not even require getting on a plane or driving for hundreds of miles.

Few movies have endured as long as Frank Capra’s It’s a Wonderful Life. Jimmy Stewart’s iconic performance put the city of Bedford Falls on the map”even if it does not exist. While Bedford Falls might be a fictional city, Seneca Falls, New York claims to be the”real Bedford Falls”. While it is impossible to say for certain that Seneca Falls served as the model for Capra’s fictional town there are many similarities that allow the New York town to serve as a reasonable stand in.

Seneca Falls holds an annual festival to celebrate the iconic movie and provide visitors with a slice of holiday Americana. Whether attending the lighting of the Christmas tree, the It’s a Wonderful Life look-a-like contest or just enjoying getting away, this off the beaten path holiday option provides a affordable option for families. The events even cater to children by providing a train ride and free pictures with Santa Claus.

While it might not be a Florida beach, Seneca Falls provides plenty of inexpensive entertainment coupled with a great deal of nostalgia. Snow falling on pine trees will seem refreshing during the dog days of summer. Instead of retreating to the tropics, enjoy an off the beaten path winter wonderland.

For northerners a holiday vacation might call for a reprieve from the snow and ice of the long winter months. Even though snow might be a part of the iconic vision of Christmas, for the people who have to live and work in snow covered streets for four or more months a break to spend time on the beach might be the break necessary to get through winter.

Even though recent headlines might call traveling to the Gulf of Mexico into question, visiting the region provides the dual purpose of injecting money into a battered region and warming up chilly northerners.

Forget seeing signs of the Gulf of Mexico oil spill on the western coast of Florida. The beaches near Sarasota remain 100 percent oil free. Sarasota beaches feature soft white sand, plenty of shells to sift through for souvenirs and the gentle waves of the Gulf of Mexico.

Siesta Key Beach was named one of the best beaches in the United States by Dr. Beach. The assessment uses more than 50 criteria including facilities, water quality, sand and safety.

Siesta Key also is recognized by the public since it has become one of the most popular tourist destinations in the state of Florida. Siesta Key also features plenty of options for people seeking a slice of Florida nightlife. For parents seeking to take a vacation and that entertains both themselves and college age kids. Send the kids out for a night on the town, while enjoying the sights of the sun setting over the Gulf of Mexico.

It might not be difficult to convince the family to go on a trip to Florida lured by the weather alone. But the combination of dining, shopping and entertainment are enough to attract all members of the family to take the trip to Siesta Key.

While Connecticut might not be spacious, only Delaware and Rhode Island are small, the state still packs plenty of attractions to lure all types of travelers. The southwest corner of the state offers easy access to all the wonders of New York, without the crowds or the prices of staying in the city.

The Connecticut River Valley was once home to Harriet Beech Stowe and Mark Twain. The authors nurtured their talents in Hartford. Twain even left behind praise for the nature beauty of the capital city. While not as famous as Twain or Stowe, actor William Gillette left behind a 24-room castle that overlooks the river. The residence is now available for tours.

For tourists seeking the scenic outdoors, few states offer the sight of Connecticut. Rolling green valleys in Litchfield Hills and the covered bridges that stand over the Housatonic River are some of the lures that bring guests to Connecticut. The spectacular view of the 250-foot Kent Falls is another.

Connecticut is also home to one of the most recognized universities in the world. New Haven is the iconic college town that is best known Yale University. While the Ivy League giant might be the reason that most people know about New Haven, the city also produced the lollipop, the corkscrew and the steamboat.

Connecticut is also known for its location on the Atlantic Ocean. The state enjoys a proud maritime tradition. Mystic recreates this tradition with its refurbished mid-1800s seaport. The northeast corner is gaining a reputation as a tranquil setting away from the hustle of big city life. The small towns in this section of the state feel like taking a step back into Colonial times. Whether seeking out history, natural wonders or just a place to get away from it all, Connecticut provides something for nearly any traveler. Follow In the footsteps of Twain and seek out an under advertised piece of Americana.

Off the beaten path travel destinations provide families with some of the best value and often some of the most fun. Rather than spending money on a tourist trap, families might be better served finding out locations that can serve as both entertainment and teaching opportunities for children and adults alike.

For people interested in American history, Hartford, Connecticut provides plenty of hidden gems to provide bonding experience for families. The Harriet Beecher Stowe house is one of these gems. Built in 1871, the house served as Stowe’s residence until her death in 1896. While the author of Uncle Tom’s Cabin might be overlooked by some a tour of the residence provides tourist’s with the means to bring history to life and to display the importance of one of the more influential author’s in the history of the United States. Uncle Tom’s Cabin brought the inequality of slavery into the homes of many influential Americans. The paintings and the furnishings of the home provide guests with a slice of a very important life.

Stowe was not the only famous author to live in Hartford. Mark Twain once called the city home. He owned a 19-room Victorian Gothic home in Hartford from 1874 until 1841. He wrote some of his most important novels during this time including The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and what many historians consider the greatest novel in American history-The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Almost 50,000 items that the author owned are on display at the house.

The nation’s oldest continuously operated public art museum also calls Hartford home. The museum boasts a large collection of Hudson River School landscape paintings and American art that spans five decades. The museum is home to works by Cole Church, Salvador Dali, Vincent van Gogh and Pablo Picasso.

Instead of trying to beat the crowds at a tourist trap, plenty of American history and can be found at affordable prices in places such as Hartford.

For serious outdoors enthusiasts tiny Connecticut provides big opportunities for recreation. Especially for travelers seeking to spend time at a beach or on the water.

The state offers several parks on the coast that offer open sandy beaches. Whether seeking swimming or laying out to sunbathe, Hammonasset Beach near Clinton and Sherwood Island in Westport are ideal destinations. Aquatics are also prominently featured at Long Island Sound. Boating in the clear blue waters or fishing for bluefish and flounders are popular activities. The Thimble Islands are another boating and fishing hot spot off of the coast of Connecticut.

Even though the state’s maritime tradition is largely associated with the ocean, Connecticut also has plenty of fresh water attractions. More than 80 lakes and 300 miles of rivers and streams dot the countryside. Avid fishermen head to the western part of the state to try their luck on the Farmington and Housatonic Rivers. Bass and rainbow trout are some of the most popular game. Fly fishing is permitted on a section of the Housatonic in Housatonic Meadows State Park in Cornwall Bridge.

For those seeking a leisurely day on the water, the Connecticut river offers canoeing and kayaking. Tubing is a popular activity on the quiet section of the Farmington River near New Hartford. Even though it might not seem like it, Connecticut is also a hub for scuba diving. Oxygen tanks and flippers are called for at Lake Waramug State Park in New Preston and at Squantz Pond in New Fairfield.

For tourists look to enjoy the sights of water rather than jumping in and getting wet, Connecticut offers plenty of water falls. Hiking trails lead to Chapman Falls at Devils Hopyard in East Haddam and to Shelter Falls near Mansfield. Connecticut provides travelers lucky enough to seek it out.

Gather around children and you shall hear about the midnight ride of Paul Revere. But isn’t seeing believing?

Massachusetts not only allows tourists and historians to hear about this important caper in American history but also provides a tour of the actual route the horse bound patriot rode. Revere holding onto his three-corner hat as he raced to warn the American minutemen about the advancement of British troops remains one of the most retold stories in American history. And it is only a small slice of the history in the state.

Massachusetts might not be thought of as a travel destination, but it should be considered an American Mecca. Pilgrimages to the cradle of American democracy should be required for students of American history.

For thousands of college students, Massachusetts remains the destination. The Boston area alone is home to more than 50 colleges and universities. This includes Harvard, the oldest and perhaps the finest institution of higher learning in the country. This educational tradition attracted the talent of literary giants such as Ralph Waldo Emerson, Henry David Thoreau and Edgar Allan Poe. All achieve fame and in some cases fortune while calling Massachusetts home.

Massachusetts remains the home of some of the sites made famous by these luminaries. Thoreau’s Walden Pond and Paul Revere’s Old North Church are within the borders of the state. Massachusetts is where the first shots of the American Revolution were fired, and where the fires that fueled the revolt were lit.

Where else can guests follow in the footsteps of such a diverse history? Whether seeking out Plymouth Rock, Boston Harbor or one of countless other important sites, Massachusetts provides plenty of treasure for guests willing to seek it out. Massachusetts provides a glimpse to the past while remaining a center for education and business.

Massachusetts is living history.

While it is always debatable, Massachusetts might be the most important travel location for enthusiasts of American history. Just consider the important events that occurred within the borders of Massachusetts: the first Thanksgiving, the Boston Tea Party, the “shot heard around the world and the Battle of Bunker Hill. These are only a small sampling of the events and destinations to explore in Massachusetts.

Massachusetts has been fertile ground for radical ideas and political ideologies that have been admired and regularly transferred to other sections of the world. Massachusetts has often been the leader of American thought. During the American Revolution it was one of the first places to opening challenge British rule. It is difficult if not impossible to imagine the American Revolution with the contributions of Massachusetts. People from Massachusetts led the way to independence. Later, during the second American Revolution, which has become known as the Civil War, Massachusetts became the antislavery capitol of the world and an enthusiastic supporter of the cause of the Union.

The English Pilgrims on the Mayflower sought out a religious community that would be a model for others around the world. The Bible told them about a “city on a hill” that would serve as an example. The word Massachusetts is Native America for “at the great hill”. While it means different things to different people, Massachusetts is never boring or meaningless. The state serves as an example of a destination that provides tourists with evidence that the mythological story of the first Thanksgiving or the founding of the United Stated actually occurred.

Massachusetts is the home to a rich history of progress and trendsetting that defines the state as something more than just the center of New England. It is also the heart of the American Republic and a travel destination that Americans should visit to understand the past.

Massachusetts is best known for its history and it is probably rightly so. Massachusetts history predates the nation and is vital in understanding the cultural and political history of the United States. This is the location of the Salem Witch Trials, the Boston Tea Party and the Boston Massacre.

Freedom Trail runs through Boston. Along this route tourists can walk in the footsteps of Paul Revere and walk where the blood of colonials hit by British fire caused the Boston Massacre. Lexington and Concord sit close to Boston. The first Battle of the American Revolution is remembered at Minute Man National Historical Park.

While the recollection of the past is an important part of the reason to seek out Massachusetts, the past and the accomplishments of patriots are not the only reasons to take a vacation to Massachusetts. Boston remains a world class city that features some of the finest universities in the world. The first and perhaps the finest university in the United States sits within the borders of Massachusetts, but the promise of seeing the campus of Harvard University might not be enough to convince the family to take a trek to Massachusetts. Boston’s New England Aquarium might be.

The New England Aquarium provides guests with plenty of reasons to gap in awe of the exotic sea life behind the glass. The natural splendor of the aquarium is countered by the man made wonders within Boston’s Museum of Fine Arts. Pablo Picasso and Claude Monet both painted works that sit at the museum.

For guest seeking other forms of entertainment, the roller coasters at Six Flags New England can shock and awe children and adults. The Agawam based theme park is full of engineering wonders that were meant to get people to scream in a mix of joy and terror. Massachusetts offers entertainment for people with interests in almost any arena.

People seeking to better understand the lives of the American patriots that helped to form the nation are correct in seeking out Massachusetts, but that is hardly the only reason to pack up the family and head towards Boston. The state offers guests with the same natural wonders that attracted people from all locations before the actions of the Founding Fathers turned Boston into a tourist destination.

The Bay State caters to nature lovers and maintains one of the United State’s largest state park and forest systems. Jump on the water in Concord, where canoeing on the rivet this is the towns’ namesake is a summer tradition. The trip takes boaters underneath a replica of the Old North Bridge where the first shots in anger of the American Revolution occurred. Fall might be the best time for canoeing since the population of motorboats has decreased by then. The Charles River outside of Boston also offers plenty of great canoeing. For tourists seeking a rougher patch of water, Massachusetts even has white-water rafting. Although not as extreme as more mountainous areas, the Deerfield River provides rapid that get as extreme as Class IV. A section of the Deerfield River is used to generate electric power, and the New England Power Company ensures that the rapids will be flowing.

For tourists looking to stay dry, the Applachian Trial cuts through Massachusetts. The tallest peak in the state is Mount Greylock. On clear days, the top of Mount Greylock provides views into five different states. Massachusetts might be the most historically important state in the union, but history is not the only reason to divert the family towards Massachusetts for a trip. The state offers outdoor activities that range from hunting to mountain biking in a place that has attracted visitors for longer than there has been a United States.

Boston does not mince words when attempting to attract guests. Rather than hide behind false modesty the city has floated out nicknames that include “The Cradle of Modern America”. Even though the proclamation might seem vain, Boston seems to earn the acclaim by producing vital cultural, scientific and political achievements.
Of all the mottos that might describe the city, the best might be the quote “We are first” from Boston Latin, the nations oldest continuous public school. Boston has been first in many areas.

The first university in the United States, Harvard, makes its home in Boston. The fist public park in the nation is the famous Boston Commons. It remains a tourist destination to this day. Ice skaters now man the park in the winter, and picnickers line the hills in the summer. But this area has been a gathering spot dating back to the era of the Puritans.

People continue to travel to Boston Common as it has been a historical gathering place for some of the most famous and important visitors to Boston. Figures ranging from Martin Luther King Jr. to Pope John Paul II inspired large gathering along this historic area.

Boston offers further public treasure at the Public Garden. The park features a mini version of the famous London Bridge and is dotted with tulips, elm tree and maples trees. The park’s pond can be navigated by the famous swan boats that have been operated by the same family since the 1870s.

Boston offers plenty of reasons to visit and some of the best and most famous sites fit any budget. A walking tour of the famous Boston Commons and the Public Gardens may not cost anything, but the memories will last a lifetime. Boston always tried to be memorable and influential. And its open urban areas have succeeded since the 17th century.

If you may be coming up a little short for the holidays, you can make your kids happy by using PayDay One. With PayDay One you can put cash in your bank account as fast as the next day and all you have to do is complete an online or phone application and find out within seconds! As long as you have an e-mail account, a regular source of income or a job, are 18 years of age or older and are a United States citizen, you can get cash to pay bills, use on a trip or buy your kids gifts for the holidays.

Sometimes we all come up short of cash. With unexpected bills such as medical issues or auto repairs, you never know when you’ll need a bit more to make ends meet. With PayDay One you have a back up plan. We can’t all predict when we’ll need emergency cash and that’s the scary part. With a back up plan like PayDay One, you’ll know that cash is there when you need it the most and you don’t have to worry about how you’ll pay that unexpected bill. You may even just need a little more cash to make the holidays brighter; they are there for that, too. No one will ask why you need the cash and that in itself can be a little more comforting.

Since they’ve been around since 2002, you also don’t have to worry about some fly-by-night company that may not be in business when you need them. Another thing to consider is that once you have paid off your first loan you can borrow again if you need to. That way you always have your little back up plan in place for any kind of emergency or just a little extra cash on hand.

African-American history and heritage enjoys a rich tradition in Boston, and the city is a must stop for travelers seeking to understand the experience of people of African descent in the United States.

The bronze relief sculpture at the northeast corner of Boston Commons honors the Civil War’s first all African-American military unit. The commanding officer was Boston resident Robert Gould Shaw who recruited members from freed slaves living in the North. The statute appears in the 1989 film Glory, which tells the story of the Massachusetts 54th Volunteer Regiment. The soldiers are remembered for their July 18, 1863 attack on the Confederate base at Battery Wagner in South Carolina. The assault produced the first African-American winner of the Medal of Honor.

The statue is a starting point for a rich Black Heritage Trail. National Park Service rangers can provide guided tours or give instructors on how to take a self-guided tour. Abolitionist William Lloyd Garrison founded the New England Anti-Slavery Society at the African Meeting House the oldest church in the United States that was constructed by free blacks.

This might be the highlight of the Black Heritage Trail that takes tourists through the hub of the abolitionist movement. Without Boston leading the way slavery might have lasted for another generation in the United States.

The Black Heritage trail goes over the same uneven brick sidewalks that influential abolitionists once walked. The same style gas street lamps still light the way in the Beacon Hill neighborhood. The tour includes many private residents that may not be entered, but the museum portion of the tour often features rare artifacts that depict life of the vibrant community of African-Americans in 19th century Boston.

Black history month might be in February, but in Boston the history of heritage of African Americans are always celebrated along the Black Heritage Trail.

Only a few of baseball’s great palaces still stand. And for baseball historians or even those will a passing interest in the game few spots hold more allure than Boston’s Fenway Park.

Babe Ruther played their first as a member of the hometown Red Sox and later as a member of the hated New York Yankees. If the original Yankee Stadium in the Bronx was the House that Ruth built then Fenway Park in Boston was the house that Ruth Cursed. The stadium opened in 1912 and it quickly was filled with World Series champions. The Red Sox won the World Series in 1918, and the long successful franchise seemed poised to enjoy more success shortly. Shortly turned out to be 86-years for Red Sox fans.

The franchise that won the first World Series in 1903 produced plenty of great players between 1918 and 2003, but non of the Hall of Fame bound Red Sox could ever deliver a championship to the city. Ted Williams won batting titles and a Triple Crown while playing the outfield at Fenway. Carl Yastrzemski won American League Most Valuable Player awards and American League Championships at Fenway. And Carlton Fisk hit his famous “waving fair” home run at Fenway win a game against the Big Red Machine in the 1975 World Series. Despite all of their efforts none of these players or their teams ever captured the World Series. The 2004 Red Sox reversed the fortunes of the franchise in dramatic fashion by becoming the only team in baseball history to bounce back from a 3-0 deficit in a playoff series.

The Red Sox are in the midst of another golden age in the history of the franchise. The best way to visit would be to attend a game. Tickets must usually be bought far in advance. Stadium tours to walk in the footsteps of history can be arranged during the off season.

Perhaps the only place where it is appropriate to yell out that “The British are coming” is on the Freedom Trail in Boston. The national recreation trail passes through many of the city’s and the nation’s most important historic sites. Each stop tells a story that can fill up an important chapter in American history.

The trail begins at Boston Common and it ends at the Bunker Hill National Monument in Charlestown. Bunker Hill is the famous American Revolution battle where the American patriots were told to not shoot until they could see the whites in the eyes of the approaching British Redcoats. Red bricks and granite stones are embedded in the sidewalk that forms a path to guide tourist from place to place.

Boston Common is a perfect place to spend a day, but on the tour it is best known for the it location near the Massachusetts State House. The dome that covers the statehouse was covered in cooper by Paul Revere’s company in 1802. The statehouse sits on Beacon Hill, one of Boston’s richest and most revered neighborhoods.

The statehouse is a short distance from the Granary Burying Ground that saw its first body laid to rest in 1660. The area is the final resting place for heroes of the American Revolution, nine Massachusetts governors and other famous people. The Granary Burying Ground also holds the graves of Samuel Adams, John Hancock and the five victims of the Boston Massacre.

Other highlights of the tour include the Old State House, which housed stirring debates between American patriots and members of the royal government. The first public reading of the Declaration of Independence occurred from a balcony at the statehouse.

Some of the other highlights of the walking tour include the Paul Revere house and the USS Constitution. Both of these sites can be toured. The walking tour concludes at the Bunker Hill Monument. The tour offer some of the best chapters in American history.

Rhode Island might be best known as the smallest state in the United States and the home of Peter Griffin. While bumping into Stewie and the rest of the Griffin plan is not likely, there are more reasons to visit Rhode Island than just the novelty of visiting the smallest state.

With about 400 miles of shoreline, Rhode Island offers a rich aquatic heritage. White triangular sails populate the waters of the Narragansett Bay and Rhode Island Sound during all seasons of the year. Sea gulls often cry out to greet sailors that might be navigating the choppy waters for sport or for work. The waters off of Rhode Island gather huge hauls of clams, lobsters and shrimp. Cold water ocean fish are also fertile in these waters. The smells of chowder and fish fries fill the air of restaurants near the coast to entice tourists to visit the coastal state.

Rhode Island also offers families with plenty of natural wonders to entertain both children and their parents. Watch the sun rise over the ocean in the morning and enjoy a walk on the beach as the day winds down. The coastal area of Rhode Island might be the state’s most iconic feature, but there is also enough inland to entice tourists to visit. The Touro Synagogue National Historic site is the oldest Jewish place of worship in the United States. It is an important site for people interested in the history of religious freedom. Newport offers sprawling mansion and a taste of some of the nation’s finest vineyards. Rhode Island is also the site of the International Tennis Hall of Fame and Museum. The grass courts at the stadium still house matches.

Rhode Island might be tiny, but the state offers tourists reasons to stop and stay for awhile. So be on the lookout for the Griffins’ and give Rhode Island a try.

Rhode Island holds the state motto of being the “Ocean State”, while the name fits due to the 400 miles of shoreline that sit on the Atlantic Ocean the tiniest of all the states has many secrets to discover. The smallest state has the longest name. Rhode Island’s official name is “The State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations”. The Rhode Island legislature changed the official name to fit more with the history of the state. Rhode Island has a history of making brash moves and for holding out to ensure that a measure is properly enacted.

Rhode Island might be best know for its tiny stature, but the size for the state did not match its boldness in being the first of the original colonies to declare independence from King George III. Rhode Island might have been the first state to pull away from England, but it was also the last state to ratify the Constitution. The people of Rhode Island would not sign onto the Constitution without the attachment of the Bill of Rights. Rhode Island was one of the earliest places in the world to recognize and promote religious freedom, which mean that residents expected their new country to enjoy the same rights that they already expected. The state was a known haven for freedoms even before the American Revolution and an important contributor to the history and legal legacy of the United States.

Visiting Rhode Island might seem like a trip to a singular land mass, but the state includes more than 30 islets in it political borders. One of these islets, Block Island was once feared by ship captains for its fog and shoals. It has been modernize and not longer presents boats with the same concerns, but it is a part of the state’s unique history.

Rhode Island offers enough history and natural features to lure tourists.

Rhode Island is known as the Ocean State due to its location on the water. It has attracted boaters and commerce since the days when the area was only a colony.

Providence was founded by the minister Roger Williams who was expelled from Massachusetts due to his liberal ideas on religion. His philosophy became ingrained in the culture of Rhode Island, which became more open to religious freedom and open expression that its neighbors to the north and south. The city is populated with old churches including the first Baptist church founded in the United States. But the lifeblood of the state was always the sea, and the capitol of Rhode Island grew and thrived because of its location on the ocean. Providence remains an economic power due to its location on Providence Harbor. The 30-mile harbor stretches from downtown Providence to Narragansett Bay. When the harbor first opened, Providence schooners headed out to trade with West Indies and African traders. Now it is used to bring in manufactured goods from all over the world. The main attraction in Providence might be Benefit Street, which is lined by more than 200 restored buildings. The area is known as the “Mile of History” by locals.

These homes, shops and eateries were build by ship captains and serve as a reminder of the importance of sea trade to Rhode Island. Newport is another Rhode Island city that relies on the sea. It has been a summer gathering place from generations of sailors since the 1800s. Newport was the home to the America’s Cup race for more than 50 years. It is also home to numerous yacht clubs.

Rhode Island is a destination that might not be immediately thought of, but for sea going tourists the state offers more than a life time of entertainment.

Why visit Boston?

For families on a budget the city offers plenty of free public parks that offer a splendid place to picnic during the summer and ice to skate on during the winter. For lovers of history, Boston is a living chronicle of the birth of the United States with sites that remember important acts that include the opening shots of the American Revolution.

While the birth of the American Republic occurred within the borders of Boston, there are plenty of other important destinations for tourists to visit while on a visit to Beantown. The blueberry pancakes at the Paramount on Charles Street are a tasty reason to take a quick break. For guests looking for a burger and a beer, then stop into the place where everybody knows your name.

The Beacon street pub that was originally know as the Bull and Finch now goes by the name that made it famous. Although characters like Sam Malone or Frasier Crane might not be sitting at the bar, Cheers is still a good place to stop in for a piece of Boston themed pop culture.

Cheers is one of many bars and gathering places that dot Boston’s neighborhoods. The city also provided the start for tow of America’s most famous franchises. Howard Johnson got its start there. And so did one of the best places for coffee and a treat. The first Dunkin’ Donuts still stands and operates at 543 Southern Artery.

Boston provides an easy way to get around and see all of its treasures. The narrow streets have been criticized for being difficult to travel dating back to the time of Ralph Waldo Emerson. The MBTA operates the trolleys, buses and subways that let travelers get around without worrying about getting stuck on the roads. The “T”, as locals call it, is the best way to get to Boston’s cultural treasures.

The history of the United States might be the most important legacy for parents to path along to their children. Future generations will find few places riper with history than the state of Massachusetts. Some of the first European settlers arrived on Massachusetts shores to seek a new place to practice their religion.

The Pilgrims arrived in the new territory wearing the broad brimmed hats that make regular appearances in school plays every November. The story of the Pilgrims and the Indians sitting down for the first Thanksgiving might be one of the most told stories in the history of the United States. This story cannot be told without Massachusetts.

Massachusetts accepted some of the most influential citizens in shaping the history of the nation. The children of the original Pilgrims gave way to the citizens of Salem and the ugly lesson of the trails once held there. Salem remains best known for the 19 falsely accused people who suffered from persecution and eventually execution. Although Massachusetts might not be considered a part of the Bible Belt now, the nation’s religious heritage began in Massachusetts. The sites and history that sit within the borders of the tiny state help to explain the country’s strange relationship with religion. From the rigid religious law of the Pilgrims and the horrors of the Salem Witch Trials some of the most liberal views towards religious freedom emerged and were maintained.

Massachusetts was the birthplace of many American traditions. Without the contributions from the residents of this state the United State might not have ever had been born let alone exist in its current state. For American’s suffering from a case of patriotism or curiosity in history a trip to Massachusetts answer the question of where we came from, and it answers the question honestly despite how the ugly the truth appeared at times.

With the holiday season coming up, it can be very tempting to shop the day away. It appears to the public that almost every store out there has some type of sale going on that just has to be taken advantage of right away. This makes the urge for stay at home moms to spoil their children even greater.

Even if you have the urge to shop at all these sales it can be hard for a stay at home mother to afford this holiday season. Most stay at home mothers in this economy are saving every penny they can so that it can go to childcare expenses, household bills or medical expenses.

If you are worried about going to these sales and blowing all the cash that you’ve saved up, you’ll be happy to know that there are various ways that you can shop without accidentally dipping into the household savings account.

Here are some of the ways that you can shop without going over budget.

Use Prepaid Credit Cards. Prepaid credit cards, like Vision Prepaid, allow shoppers to be able to put a set amount on a card. Then when it comes to shopping, you can only spend that amount. There is no way to go over and it allows a shopper to be able to control the amount of money that is spent while shopping.

Only Pay in Cash. One of the ways that shoppers get into trouble is they put everything on credit and don’t keep track of how much they are really spending. If you only pay in cash then you can keep an eye on the money that you are spending and just how much you have left. That way you can set an amount aside to spend and when that money is gone, the shopping stops.

Hartford once inspired the writing of Mark Twain, and the natural splendor of the city remains despite the changes caused by time. Hartford is a blend of the past and the future. The Phoenix Life Insurance Company, the boat-shaped headquarters and the world’s original two-sided building, is only a short walk away from the Ancient Burying Ground. Build in 1640, the Ancient Burying Ground is the oldest site in Hartford and the only one surviving from the 1600s.

Although the ghosts of the 1600 souls buried at the ground remain an important part of the history of Hartford, the city would not exist without its ties to the insurance industry. Founded a Dutch trading post 1633, Hartford was transformed to an English settlement in 1636 by Thomas Hooker and Samuel Stone. Stone is believed to have named the city after his hometown of Hertford, England.

Hartford is a vital place to visit form travelers with an interest in early American history. The capitol of Connecticut was the local of some of the earliest efforts to resist English rule. As early as 1687, the English governor tried to force the residents to give up a charter that granted the colony its independence. Rather than present the King Charles II signed document to the governor the residents hid it in the trunk of an oak tree for three days. A stone marker now sits on the Charter Oak Place to mark the location where the tree stood until 1856.

The independence streak seemed to provide Hartford with acute business acumen. The city became one of the richest in the nation in the late 19th century . By 1871 Hartford had the highest per capita income of anywhere in the country. It drew in famous philanthropists and literary figures including Twain. This period in its history is part of the reason to include Hartford as a place to visit to understand the American experience.

Financial history might not be the most sexy topic to some people, but for people seeking to understand how the United States grew to become the dominate economic power in the world a stop in Hartford, Connecticut is necessary.

While Hartford might be met with a confusing look, the city was once one of the most important financial centers in the world. In the 1870s it was one of the richest cities in the United States and an important enough place to draw in celebrities.

The town maintains its sense of history. The same newspaper that citizens read on Hartford’s rise to power remains in circulation to this day. The Hartford Courant was first published in 1764, and it is the oldest continuous name and circulation of any newspaper in the United States.

Hartford might be a place of history significance based on this period alone, but its strength remains to this day due to the insurance industry. Hartford got a jump on the competition with the founding of the Hartford Fire Insurance Company in 1810.The company grew and expanded to become large enough to place a permanent stamp on American history. The Travelers Tower is one of the tallest buildings in New England. Another example of insurance industry paid for buildings is the green headquarters of the Phoenix Home Mutual Insurance Company that is housed at Constitutional Plaza. These buildings show the legacy of a multi-billion dollar industry that build much of the city.

It is difficult to imagine Hartford without the insurance industry, which transformed modern commerce and became a part of the lived of nearly every citizen in the industrialized world. Without Hartford would the insurance industry still exist? Probably. But would it exist in the same form? Almost, certainly not. Hartford provides a glimpse of how economies are built and grow.
